Rockwood, Tennessee’s public utility officials didn’t file the proper Obamacare forms with the Internal Revenue Service on time, and now the utility must pay the feds more than $25,0000 in penalty costs.
This, according to an audit Tennessee Comptrollers released about Rockwood Electric Utility on Monday.
REU officials did not return The Tennessee Star’s repeated requests for comment.
Specifically, utility officials failed to file Form 1094-B and Forms 1095-B with the IRS or provide Form 1095-B to employees and former employees.
“Failure to timely file/provide these forms causes the Utility to not be in compliance with the Affordable Care Act,” according to the audit.
“Forms filed after the mandated due date are subject to penalties. The estimated penalty for the Utility is $25,720.”
Form 1094-B is the Transmittal Form for Form 1095-B. Form 1095-B is the Health Insurance informational return. A separate Form 1095-B must get filed for each employee and former employee covered by the utility’s health insurance plan during the year, Comptrollers wrote.
This is not the first instance this year of the IRS penalizing a public entity in Tennessee.
As The Star previously reported:
• The IRS assessed nearly $400,000 in penalties and interests against the Maury County School Department.
• The IRS fined Jackson County officials a sum of $86,147 for failing to comply with Obamacare. That penalty money, of course, came from county taxpayers.
• The Grundy County School System had to pay more than $34,000 in penalties to the IRS for not complying with Obamacare.
• Hancock County officials did not remit two payroll tax deposits to the Internal Revenue Service, which caused an assessment of interest and penalties totaling more than $2,000.
As for REU, it is a not-for-profit, municipally-owned utility that caters to nearly 15,000 residential, commercial, industrial, and public facilities. REU operation and control of the power system is vested in the Electric Power Board as outlined in Rockwood’s City Charter, according to the utility’s website.
REU has more than 40 full-time employees, the website went on to say.

Trumpcare, if ever exists, will have penalties for late filing too.
This is the proof that the entire program must be done away with, with these kinds of fines, just to make the people in charge of a failed program justify their jobs s just wrong.
Yeah he was just a great president wasn’t he!! All for not filing some bullsh!t forms on time !!! Tell me that warrants fines like they had set up to hit you with!! Tax payer money right down the drain. I don’t care what anyone says or thinks, that asshole did more damage to this country then 5 presidents could have done!! What did he do for us?? Not a dam thing !! Give you some high priced insurance with high deductibles most could not even pay !!
